Abortion is on the ballot in Missouri, Nevada, and Virginia this November, with Idaho and Nebraska campaigns gathering signatures
The future of the unborn child will be written directly onto three state ballots this November. According to tracking by the health policy research organization KFF, voters in Missouri, Nevada, and Virginia will weigh in on abortion-related ballot measures in 2026 that could change the legal status of abortion in their states, while signature-gathering campaigns for additional measures are underway in Idaho and Nebraska.
These contests arrive with hard lessons behind them. Since the Dobbs decision returned abortion to the people in 2022, voters in 17 states have faced abortion ballot measures, some more than once. In 2024, 10 states voted on measures seeking to write abortion into their constitutions. Seven of those pro-abortion measures passed, in Arizona, Colorado, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, and New York. But three failed, in Florida, Nebraska, and South Dakota, proving that when the pro-life movement organizes early and speaks plainly about what these amendments actually do, it can win.
Missouri's presence on the 2026 list is especially significant. Missouri voters narrowly approved a pro-abortion constitutional amendment in 2024, and this November they will have the question before them again. No state has yet reversed course after enshrining abortion in its constitution. Missouri could be the first, and the abortion industry knows it, which is one reason Planned Parenthood's political arm has announced state-level election spending in Nevada and other battlegrounds this cycle.
The arithmetic of these contests should focus every pro-life mind. Ballot measures are frequently decided by margins smaller than the number of pro-life citizens who stay home. As this publication has reported, roughly 3 in 10 pro-life Americans do not vote. In a constitutional referendum, there is no district map and no incumbency. Every single vote in the state counts equally, and the side that shows up wins.

Why should pro-life Americans care? Constitutional amendments are nearly permanent. A state that writes abortion into its constitution places the unborn beyond the protection of any future legislature. What happens next: campaigns in all three states will intensify through the fall, and the Idaho and Nebraska petition drives will determine whether the 2026 map grows. Pro-life citizens in these states should register, volunteer, and inform their neighbors now, not in October. The unborn cannot campaign for themselves.
