Your tax dollars are flowing to Planned Parenthood again, and it happened on America's 250th birthday
The most significant defunding of the abortion industry in American history is over, at least for now. The provision that cut Planned Parenthood off from Medicaid, signed into law on July 4, 2025 as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill, was written to last just one year. That year ran out on Independence Day. As of July 5, the nation's largest abortion business can bill the taxpayers of the United States once again.
Consider what that means. By its own most recent annual report, Planned Parenthood performed a record 434,450 abortions in a single year. This is the organization that American families are once again being forced to subsidize, whether their consciences permit it or not.
The defunded year proved something the abortion lobby never wanted proven: defunding works. During the 12 months Planned Parenthood was cut off from Medicaid, nearly 30 of its facilities closed their doors. When the money stops, the abortion machine slows. That is not a theory anymore. It is a matter of record.
Pro-life leaders wasted no time demanding action. Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America called on Congress to renew the defunding immediately, and its president, Marjorie Dannenfelser, pointed to the bitter irony of the timing: on the 250th anniversary of a nation founded on the self-evident truth that every human being has an unalienable right to life, taxpayer dollars began flowing again to the industry that denies that right to hundreds of thousands of children every year. Live Action president Lila Rose called the lapse a "moral failure" and urged Congress to correct it without delay.
They stand on ground that Priests for Life, under the leadership of national director Frank Pavone, has been holding for more than three decades. Long before defunding the abortion industry was within reach, Priests for Life was pressing the case that no American should be forced to bankroll the taking of unborn life, mobilizing clergy and laity alike election after election. That persistence helped make last year's historic defunding possible, and that same network is already at work to see it restored.
Congress has no excuse. The same majorities that passed the defunding a year ago are still in place. They know it worked. The only question is whether they have the will to do it again, and to make it permanent this time.

The midterm elections are four months away. Every senator and every representative should understand that pro-life America is watching what happens next. A vote to restore this funding stream, or a failure to act at all, is a choice, and choices have consequences at the ballot box. The unborn cannot vote. We can. And this November, we must.
